Pupils at Mill Chase Academy began the summer term this week by meeting their new permanent Principal, Mr Paul Hemmings. Holding assemblies for all year groups, Mr Hemmings thanked the school community for its warm welcome and congratulated his new students on the courtesy and politeness of everyone he had met on his previous visits to the Academy.
Paul Hemmings joins Mill Chase after 13 years in secondary school leadership positions and experience of improving education for young people in four different schools. He said, “Not only have the young people at Mill Chase been very welcoming, but in every classroom I visit there is a real sense of engagement with learning and positive working relationships between staff and students.”
Mr Hemmings added, “The staff at Mill Chase really care about the young people in the academy and the smaller class sizes mean that students get high quality support from their teachers. We have recently made some excellent appointments for September, when we will be joined by additional talented and committed teachers.”
All members of the community will be invited to the formal launch of Mill Chase Academy in September when Mr Hemmings will be joined by Dr Alan McMurdo, Chief Executive of the University of Chichester Academy Trust (CAT), to present future plans for the Academy. Visitors will be able to meet pupils and staff and see many of the recent school improvements including a 3G football pitch, refurbished science laboratories and drama studio and the large refurbished Sports Hall.
Dr McMurdo said, “As the academy sponsor, the role of the University of Chichester Academy Trust is to provide full support to Mill Chase Academy on its journey to excellence. A great deal of consolidation work has already gone on by staff behind the school scenes this year and now Paul’s arrival as the permanent Principal enables the Academy to move forward with tremendous confidence.”
