The University of Chichester Academy Trust has announced that Mrs Hilary Faulkner has been appointed Headteacher of Kingsham Primary School in Chichester and will take up her post in September 2016.

Mrs Faulkner is currently Headteacher of Court Lane Junior School in Portsmouth. Prior to that she was Headteacher at Parklands Community Primary School and Plaistow and Kirdford Primary School, both in West Sussex, and has considerable experience of working successfully with improving schools.

Mrs Faulkner said: ‘I am delighted to be appointed as permanent Headteacher of Kingsham Primary School, not least because I live locally and both my children went to the school. This is a wonderful opportunity to lead a school in my own community, and ensure that the children get the very best education we can provide. I am also excited about working with the University of Chichester and using their skills and expertise to enhance the education of the children.’

Welcoming Mrs Faulkner to her new role, Sue Samson, Chief Executive Officer of the University of Chichester Academy Trust said: ‘Both the Local Governing Body and the Academy Trust are delighted to have found exactly the right Headteacher for Kingsham. We are confident that Hilary will continue the excellent work of our interim Head Jane McDowell, who has been working with us to set the school securely on its Journey to Excellence.’

Kingsham Primary School joined the University of Chichester Academy Trust in September 2014 and is supported in its curriculum development and in teaching and learning by education experts from the University’s Institute of Education, enhanced by access to other specialist subject areas. Currently, for example, students from the University’s Fine Art department are working with pupils as artists-in-residence and Adventure Education staff are making the most of the extensive school grounds by establishing a Forest School site.
